Frequently
Asked Questions.

01How does the pixel engine work?

Our pixel engine analyzes the composition of your image by reading contrast, luminosity, color distribution, and subject definition to generate a clean and balanced pixel version of your photo. It then maps every color block to a precise tile position, so the final artwork keeps the essence of the original image while remaining buildable in a physical format. The system is designed to simplify visual noise and preserve the most important shapes, expressions, and shadows, which is especially important when transforming real photos into limited-color pixel compositions. It also optimizes the tile count automatically so the design is coherent, aesthetically balanced, and matched to the materials included in your kit.

02What is included in the kit?

Each kit includes everything you need to build your artwork from start to finish: a baseplates, the full quantity of pixel tiles required for your design, and a practical tool to help with assembly and adjustments. You also receive a layout guide with a unique code to activate the tools on our website. The goal is that the customer does not need to calculate colors, count pieces, or improvise anything after purchase

03How long does shipping take?

Custom orders are typically prepared and dispatched within 24 hours after the payment, although production times may vary slightly during high-demand periods. Once shipped, delivery usually takes between 3 and 7 business days depending on the destination, the courier, and the selected shipping method.

04Can I use any photo?

Yes, in most cases you can use almost any photo, but some images produce better results than others. Portraits, pets, subjects with clear silhouettes, and photos with good contrast usually translate especially well into pixel art because the key forms remain recognizable even at smaller scales. Photos that are blurry, very dark, overexposed, or crowded with too many background details can still be processed, but the final result may appear less defined. For the best outcome, we recommend choosing an image where the main subject is clearly visible and visually separated from the background.

05Is there a return policy?

If your order arrives with missing, defective, or damaged pieces, replacements can be sent at no additional cost after verification.

06Will my final design look exactly like the original photo?

The final result is a pixel interpretation of your image, not a photographic print, so some simplification is part of the creative process. The design is optimized to preserve the most important visual features of the original photo while adapting it to a limited grid and color palette. That means expressions, outlines, and major contrasts are prioritized over tiny details. This is normal in mosaic and pixel-based compositions, where visual clarity depends on reducing complexity in a controlled way.

07Do I need building experience?

No previous building experience is required. The kit is designed so that beginners can follow the layout guide step by step and complete the artwork in an intuitive way. Even if the design is based on a custom image, the process is structured and accessible because each tile position is already planned in advance. In practice, customers are assembling a prepared design rather than improvising the composition themselves.

08How long does it take to build?

Build time depends on the size and complexity of the design, as well as the pace of the person assembling it. Smaller or simpler compositions can often be completed in one or two relaxed session (6-8 hours), while larger pieces are meant to be enjoyed over multiple sessions. Many customers treat the experience as part of the product itself: not only the finished artwork, but also the process of building it. That makes it suitable both as a personal project and as a creative gift experience.

09What kind of photos work best?

The best results usually come from images with strong lighting, a clear focal subject, and limited visual clutter. Close-up portraits, pet photos, and simple compositions tend to convert especially well because the engine can preserve identity and shape with greater clarity. If the image contains multiple faces, complex scenery, or weak contrast, the result may be less sharp at small scales. In those cases, offering guidance before purchase can help set expectations and improve customer satisfaction.

10What happens if pieces are missing or damaged?

If any pieces are missing, damaged, or incorrect, replacements should be issued as quickly as possible after the issue is reported and verified. This kind of exception handling is an important part of clear ecommerce post-purchase communication and helps separate product defects from normal return requests. To arrange the issue we will need your complete name, an email and the order ID. You can submit the issue through support@pixelando.art
